Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is important. It’s how people find your website in Google. Search Engine Optimisation has changed over the years. Sometimes it is hard to keep up. In this post, we’re going to share with you 3 new things that you may not have previously considered. These are not the only “on-page” factors to consider but they are incredibly important.
Mobile web surfing is bigger than desktop
In 2015, in recognition of how people are now more likely to surf the web on a mobile device rather than a PC, Google pushed out an algorithm update. These updates aren’t new but this one was a big one. It’s when Google started to boost mobile optimised web pages and, later, started to penalise those pages that weren’t mobile optimised. You need to make sure that your website is mobile friendly if you want people to find it.
People are searching via voice
On top of mobile search, people are taking advantage of other features of their smartphone. The in-built microphones and voice to text services mean that many people are using their microphones to search for what they are looking for. They are “speaking” their search terms. This means that search terms are becoming more conversational. Your website content should reflect this. Think about how people would “say” what they are searching for. People aren’t likely to just “say” one word so make sure that your web content takes into account long-tail keyword – that is keyword phrases
Content is everything
Old-school SEO techniques were easy. You’d write a few articles, share them with article directories, and also stuff your articles with a bunch of keywords. In the “old days” it was easy to rank in Google. It doesn’t work like that anymore. Google has become smarter. Google recognises these loopholes. Google recognises keyword stuffing. Google recognises dodgy backlinks. The best way to rank in Google is to create great content. Great content will be shared. This will create great backlinks and this will rank you highly in Google.
The old way doesn’t work anymore. You can’t live in the past. You should follow these tips to ensure that you boost your chances of ranking highly in Google. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss any of this further.
